Our goal is to provide you with the best information possible regarding affordable, accessible and integrated housing services and resources offered in the state of Kansas. Attempt to network those services and resources for the customers we serve, and pass along any successes, improvements, pitfalls, or roadblocks to the Statewide Independent Living Council of Kansas (SILCK) for purposes of systems advocacy. Our work for people living with disabilities in Centers of Independent Living (CILs) across the state gives us the opportunity to be a part of the Statewide Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) Housing Workgroup. This group exists for purposes of educating ourselves and our customers as to resources being offered to the communities we serve as well as advocate for and stay apprised of any changes or improvements in housing services and resources. Our intention is to contribute to affordable, accessible and integrated housing to those in most need of it. "There’s No Place Like MY Home and Community!"
Our Workgroup goals are as follows:
Teach Kansas Communities the benefits of Universal Design in housing construction, the needs of people with disabilities in housing, and how to make housing accessible for all.
Encouraging people living with disabilities to participate with local, regional, and state organizations to promoter and advocate for Affordable Accessible, and Integrated housing.
Identify housing information, resources, and training opportunities for workgroup members to share with local advocates.
